Play classical piano concerts twice in Carnegie Hall by age 14. Teach English at Tsuruga College in Japan at 16. Full scholarship to Rutgers University at 18. What's a girl to do next? Why, become a porn star, of course! That's exactly what Asia Carrera did. Born August 6, 1973, to a Japanese father and German mother in New York city, Asia had an impressive scholastic record and overly oppressive parents. She ran away from home at seventeen, was caught and placed in a foster home, ran away again on her eighteenth birthday and this time stayed hidden until the start of her freshman year of college. She admits that she attended college just to have a place to stay and tended bar for extra cash. Asked to serve drinks topless at a private party, she accepted, drank a little courage and ended up dancing on the bar with the strippers. When the night was over she was so impressed by the money she'd made - all of $300 - that she got jobs at all the local go-go bars, soon becoming one of the highest paid dancers in New Jersey. In order to get movie and magazine jobs she sent her photos to as many adult magazines as she could. "Club" magazine sent her to a photographer who gave her the phone number of L.A. based producer/director Bud Lee. Asia flew to L.A. after the fall semester of '93 to meet him... one wedding and 278 films ago. We suspect she does more than just dabble - she writes, produces and directs under the name "Dow Jones."
